Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 19, 2026
We know legal pages aren't fun to read — here's the plain-English version: we collect only what we need to run the job board, we share your details with employers when you apply, and we never sell your personal information.
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how ChefJobs Abroad ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our website and services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.
2. Information We Collect
- Account information: name, email address, and password (stored securely/hashed) when you register.
- Profile information: for Job Seekers, this may include resume/CV content, work history, culinary specialties and certifications, location, nationality/visa or work-authorization status, and other details you choose to add to your profile.
- Employer information: company name, contact details, and job listing content submitted by Employers.
- Communications: messages you send us (e.g., support requests), and records of emails we send you (account, verification, and job-related notifications).
- Usage data: information collected automatically when you use the Service, such as IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and referring pages, typically via cookies and analytics tools (see Section 5).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: operate, maintain, and improve the Service; create and manage your account; match Job Seekers with relevant listings and make Job Seeker profiles/applications visible to Employers you apply to or who you make your profile visible to; send account-related, verification, and (where you've opted in) marketing or job-alert emails; respond to inquiries and provide support; monitor and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents; and comply with legal obligations.
4. How We Share Your Information
- With Employers/Job Seekers: when you apply to a listing or make your profile visible, relevant profile/application information is shared with the corresponding Employer (or vice versa for listing details shared with Job Seekers).
- With service providers: we use third-party providers for hosting, database, email delivery, and analytics services, who process data on our behalf and are bound to protect it.
- For legal reasons: we may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of ChefJobs Abroad, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: if ChefJobs Abroad is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy or a policy at least as protective.
- We do not sell your personal information.
5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and understand how the Service is used (e.g., via analytics tools). You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may affect some functionality of the Service.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 9).
7. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International Data Transfers
ChefJobs Abroad is based in Canada, and your information may be stored and processed in Canada, the United States, or other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international transfers.
9. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your data, and to withdraw consent or opt out of marketing communications. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at chefjobsabroad@gmail.com.
- Canada (PIPEDA): You have the right to access and request correction of your personal information and to withdraw consent for its collection, use, or disclosure, subject to legal or contractual restrictions.
- European Economic Area / UK (GDPR): If you are located in the EEA or UK, you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object to processing, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
- California (CCPA/CPRA): If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do not sell your personal information) — and you will not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
