About the Position
๐ฝ Opportunity
Tasty Indian Bites is hiring four Independent Chef-I roles at once for its restaurant on Ceintuurbaan, in the heart of De Pijp โ Amsterdam's old working-class-turned-trendy neighbourhood, a short walk from the stalls of Albert Cuyp Market โ to cook a menu built around biryani, tandoori preparations and fast, flavour-forward bites. Four roles opening together in one of Amsterdam's most walkable, food-obsessed neighbourhoods signals a kitchen scaling up its team, not quietly backfilling a single departure.
๐จโ๐ณ Role & Responsibilities
Independently prepare lunch and dinner dishes from the Indian repertoire, including biryani, tandoori preparations and quicker ร la carte bites
Handle mise en place and prep work โ cutting, mixing, portioning โ to get service-ready
Ensure the quality, taste and presentation of every dish that leaves the kitchen
Apply and comply with HACCP and food safety regulations
Manage inventory: ordering, receiving and checking incoming stock
Clean and maintain kitchen equipment and workspaces
Contribute ideas for recipes, menu updates and more efficient kitchen processes
Support and manage the kitchen assistants โ a step beyond simply overseeing compliance, this role carries real day-to-day people-management alongside the cooking
๐ ChefJobs Abroad Analysis
De Pijp is Amsterdam at its most lived-in โ narrow 19th-century streets, a genuinely mixed immigrant and creative population, and a street-market pulse that outlasts the tourist crowds packing the canal ring a few minutes north. Working an Indian kitchen here means cooking for a neighbourhood that already knows and wants the food, not translating it for a tour-bus crowd. Worth knowing going in: the CAO wage band on this listing (โฌ2,700โ3,200) is the same range paid at sister operations in Utrecht and Den Helder, but it stretches noticeably less far against Amsterdam rent and daily costs โ the trade you're making here is central-Amsterdam life and a four-person hiring wave (real growth, real room to move up) against a paycheque that goes further elsewhere in the country. For a chef who wants the city more than the margin, and who'd rather manage people than just cook alongside them, that's a fair trade.
โ
Best Fit
Chefs who want to cook biryani and tandoori dishes for a neighbourhood audience that already loves the cuisine, not a tourist-facing menu
Cooks ready to take on real people-management โ this role manages kitchen assistants, not just supervises them
Chefs who want central Amsterdam life and are prepared to budget around it on a CAO-scale wage
Those who'd rather join a kitchen expanding its team (four roles at once) than backfill a single vacancy
Chefs comfortable running lunch and dinner service independently, start to finish
Cooks who want a hand in shaping recipes and kitchen process, not just executing a fixed menu
Not a fit for chefs expecting a fine-dining pace or plating standard โ this is fast, flavourful, from-scratch neighbourhood cooking
