About the Position

🍽 Opportunity Whaler's Cove Lodge sits on Killisnoo Island in Alaska's Alexander Archipelago — no roads, no cars, no grocery store within reach, just floatplane and boat access for guests and crew alike. The lodge is hiring a Head Chef to run the galley through the 2026 summer season, turning wild Alaskan seafood and game into roughly 14,000 meals for up to 32 guests and 30 staff between May and September. If a menu built around what the boats bring in that morning sounds better than a menu built around what a supplier can deliver, this is the kitchen. 👨‍🍳 Role - Lead the kitchen through three services a day: a plated breakfast, a buffet lunch, and a plated dinner, for up to 32 guests plus the lodge's own crew - Build menus around Alaskan seafood and wild game sourced through the lodge's own fishing and provisioning operation - Manage food prep areas, waste, and inventory in a setting where nothing arrives by truck - Coach a small team of sous chefs and prep cooks through a compressed, intense season - Handle opening, mid-season, and closing kitchen operations across the roughly 90-day run 🌎 ChefJobs Abroad Analysis This is remote-Alaska cooking in its purest form: an island with no cars, no roads, and no corner store, 17 million acres of wilderness at your back door, and a season that runs flat-out from the first floatplane in May to the last one in September. It's a genuine trade-up for a chef who wants full ownership of a menu built entirely around what the water and the land actually produce that week, rather than seven variations on the same banquet tray. It is not the place for anyone who needs a night off mid-week or a city within driving distance — there is no driving distance. ✅ Best Fit This opportunity is ideal for chefs who: - Have led a kitchen before and want full menu ownership, not just a station - Get genuine satisfaction from cooking whatever the boat brought in that day - Can commit to the full May–September season without breaks - Thrive on 10-12 hour days, six days a week, inside a small, tight-knit crew - Have handled wild game and seafood-forward menus, or want to build that specialty - Are comfortable with genuinely remote, amenity-light living for a full season

Benefits

  • Salary DOE — lodge describes it as commensurate with professional experience
  • Room and board included for the full season
  • One day off per week
  • 🐻 A genuinely off-grid Alaska wilderness posting with no equivalent on the mainland
