About the Position
🍽 Opportunity
Sodexo is hiring a Head Chef to run the kitchen across FIFO/BIBO mining villages in regional Queensland, flying or busing out of Brisbane on a 14-days-on, 7-days-off roster. At $100,000–$107,000 plus super, it's one of the more direct routes to six figures in Australian foodservice — and unlike most hospitality rosters, the seven days off actually stay off.
👨🍳 Role
- Lead the kitchen team across three daily bulk-catering services for a mining community workforce
- Manage food safety and HACCP compliance across high-volume production
- Oversee kitchen budgets and monitor food cost
- Mentor and develop junior kitchen staff
- Work FIFO/DIDO rotations departing from Brisbane
🌎 ChefJobs Abroad Analysis
Camp catering doesn't come with the glamour of a beachfront resort, but the economics are hard to argue with: a guaranteed six-figure salary, meals and accommodation covered while on-site, and a roster that hands back a genuine week off every fortnight rather than the broken hours of restaurant hospitality. For a Head Chef who's done their time in front-of-house-adjacent kitchens and wants to bank real money without the emotional overhead of a dining room, Queensland's mining villages are a well-trodden, legitimate path — and Sodexo runs enough of these sites that FIFO/DIDO experience is a preference, not a hard requirement.
