About the Position
๐ฝ Opportunity
SpaceX is hiring an Executive Sous Chef at Starbase to work directly with the Executive Chef overseeing teams across multiple food service outlets โ fueling the broader workforce while supporting the higher-end food experiences delivered to the company's guests and VIPs. The hook: this is the Executive Chef's direct second-in-command on a site building the hardware behind SpaceX's Mars program, a role built for a chef who wants serious multi-outlet leadership experience without yet carrying the top seat's full accountability.
๐จโ๐ณ Role & Responsibilities
Help set, follow, and enforce standards of operation across multiple kitchen outlets and service formats
Support the Executive Chef with day-to-day operation, team development, and department oversight
Enforce food and general workplace safety across all food service areas
Train staff on work planning materials, safety protocols, and health inspection guidelines
Support hiring and disciplinary decisions for the team, with overall food services wellbeing in mind
Help coordinate successful new outlet openings, with particular emphasis on VIP experiences
Support ongoing operation of new outlets once they're in regular day-to-day service
Help plan and meet cost-per-head targets across sites and outlets
Support hiring, development, and retention across all food services staff
๐ ChefJobs Abroad Analysis
Sitting directly under the Executive Chef at Starbase means an Executive Sous Chef gets exposure to the full scope of multi-outlet corporate food service โ VIP openings, cost-per-head targets, cross-site standards โ without yet holding sole accountability for it, which makes this a genuine proving ground for a chef aiming at their own Executive seat next. The setting does a lot of the differentiating on its own: this is food service inside one of the country's most closely watched engineering operations, not a typical corporate campus or hotel kitchen. It's a strong move for a chef who wants big-scope leadership experience and a distinctive employer name, with a clear next step visible above them.
โ
Best Fit
Chefs with multi-outlet experience ready to support, rather than solely own, cross-site leadership
Chefs who want a proving ground toward their own future Executive Chef seat
Strong operators comfortable working closely under another chef's standards and direction
Chefs who lead teams of 20+ and want that scale of people-management experience
Those energised by a high-profile corporate and engineering environment over a traditional resort or restaurant
Not a fit for chefs who want to be the sole decision-maker rather than a close second
