About the Position
๐ฝ Opportunity
Salterra is the only hotel on South Caicos, a quiet salt-island in the Turks and Caicos where free-roaming donkeys, left over from the salt-raking days, still wander the roads. It's now looking for an Executive Chef to run the kitchen behind six food outlets, from the upscale Brine with its seasonal Caribbean menu to a poolside grill and a Mediterranean-leaning food truck. The headline: a tax-free USD 80,000โ95,000 package with housing, meals and flights built in. The hotel is run by franchisee JEM Hospitality Ltd., which is the actual employer โ not Marriott International.
๐จโ๐ณ Role
- Oversee daily kitchen operations across the property and keep food quality consistent in every kitchen area
- Cook personally while leading the brigade โ this is not a desk-only role
- Manage food-related functions and the operating budget
- Coach, train and develop direct reports
- Enforce sanitation and food safety standards
- Work to improve both guest and staff satisfaction
๐ ChefJobs Abroad Analysis
South Caicos is the opposite of Providenciales' resort sprawl. It's remote, flat, windy and quiet โ the kind of place where your day off is a boat to a nearby cay and your commute is a short walk. For a chef, that cuts both ways: supply chains are a real planning exercise, and the social scene is small. The payoff is a kitchen with range โ Caribbean seasonality at Brine, Latin-leaning pool food, cay barbecues featuring grilled conch โ plus a package where nothing is taxed and the big living costs are covered. This is a genuine trade-up for a hotel executive sous or chef de cuisine who wants a first full command on an island, or a Caribbean veteran who'd rather bank money than chase city nightlife.
