About the Position
π½ Opportunity
Kona Village, the historic hale-style resort that reopened in 2023 after more than a decade dark, is hiring a Kahuwai Cook 2 to help staff the kitchens across its 81 acres of dining venues β including the beloved, long-running Shipwreck Bar and Talk Story Bar. This is a foundational cooking role, not a leadership seat: real knife work, real prep, real kitchen fundamentals, at a property with genuine cultural weight on the Big Island and a guaranteed hourly wage rather than a DOE guessing game.
π¨βπ³ Role & Responsibilities
Wash, peel, cut, and seed vegetables and fruits; clean, cut, and grind meats, poultry, and seafood
Bread food items in crumbs, flour, and batter; stir and strain soups and sauces
Weigh and measure ingredients precisely to recipe cards
Carry pans, kettles, and trays between workstations, stove, and refrigerator; store food correctly
Clean work areas, equipment, and utensils; segregate and remove garbage
Distribute supplies, utensils, and portable equipment; carve various cooked meats
Assist with quality control across the outlet and the wider Culinary department
Set up buffet presentations under a shift supervisor's guidance
Handle guest and colleague questions courteously, escalating anything unresolved with prompt follow-up
π ChefJobs Abroad Analysis
The Big Island's Kona Coast is a genuinely different Hawaii β dramatic lava-field landscape, fewer than 10 miles from Kona International Airport, and a resort that locals and returning guests alike talk about in terms of 'ohana rather than just amenities, given its history and 2023 rebirth. For a cook early in their career, working inside a from-scratch kitchen at a Rosewood-managed, Forbes/Michelin-caliber property means real mentorship and real technique-building β the kind of foundation that's hard to get at a lower-tier operation β while still earning a solid, guaranteed $26.99/hour rather than betting on tips or vague DOE promises.
